Interviews      Swan Christy - via mail 06.01.2003

Yia Sou and welcome very much to this interview for the Rising Darkness Magazine! It' great that you are taking this time for our short interview!

As far as I tried to find out something about Swan Christy there were only very few information about you to find. So I would beg you at first to tell me something about the beginning of Swan Christy, the way you took until today and about your current line up!

Iraklis:
The band started in 1996 when we recorded our first demo. "A tribute to Chris Oliva". At that time the band had only two members. Iraklis and Kostas. Two more demos came next , "Farewell to the flesh" and "Vis a vis".Then we signed with Black Lotus Records where we recorded our previous three albums. "One with the swan" , "Today died yesterday" and "Black is the white color".Until now that we released "Julian".Our line up now is Iraklis on piano, kostas on vocals,Spiros and Dimitris on programming and production.

What about the bands name Swan Christy. Would you tell me something about it's meaning and why you took it as the bands name?

Iraklis:
During the recordings of our first demo i was searching for a name for our band.Inside a big dictionary i found the name of a street that was Swan something.I say something because i forgot the second word and never found it again.I remember only that i liked it very much. That period Chris Oliva had died so we borrowed something from his name and now we are Swan Christy.

You call your style of music "Soundtrack Of Schizophrenic Movie". How do I have to understand this? Would you entitle your music as soundtrack music for a special film genre?

Iraklis & Spiros:
That description of the album was our record label's opinon not our own.We agree that it has some influence from soundtrack music, but we find that it has so many other aspects to it and different music styles, that it is a little deteriorating for our work to be described only as a possible soundtrack.

On this album you changed the style of music you used to play completely. Just a natural progression in your eyes or are there other reasons for that?

Iraklis:
Mainly because i got bored playing metal and playing with guitars. So we would either split the band for good or change our musical style completely

There are no guitars and basses on this album to find. How was this idea born to do the whole album without them?

Iraklis & Spiros:
What do you mean?Basses and guitars are the only way to create an album? You can create a whole album only with whistling if you have a logic reason or compulsion to do so.

I for myself think it is a very interesting album which is very much living from Kostas great vocals but what was the reaction of you fans out there? Did they accept the step you did?

Iraklis:
It is very soon to say anything about that. The album released just a while ago and we have no feedback from the fans reaction or the sales of it.

It is really hard to characterize the music you are playing now, may be I can compare it a bit with the new Depeche Mode or the German Wolfsheim. So how would you characterize Julian by yourself?

Iraklis:
We can't find any resemblance with the last Depeche Mode album. Also we haven't heard any Wolfsheim albums so we can't help you with that.We believe that it has some common ground with the older Depeche albums. Iraklis:Personaly i don't want and probably cannot describe our new musical direction.
I will tell you that i see it as an electronic soundtrack for a melancholic film that was never shot.
Spiros:
It is difficult for me too this description , because personally i haven't made any change in my musical direction.I would have to agree with Iraklis. That it is a mixture of electronic , soundtrack and experimental music

Why did you entitle it Julian?

Iraklis:
Just because the word Julian appeared in the title of "Julian just died" and sounded nice.

Thank you very much again, "Efcharisto" for your time, keep going on your way and take care! If there are any last words you would like to add - feel free for it!
