Interviews      Siebenbürgen - Hafen (Innsbruck) 2002

At first I want to say hello to you and welcome in Austria. Of cause it is not your first time here in Europe .

No, that’s right.

I read about that on your first tour in 97 and with your first album Loreia you have been in Germany on tour for the first time. So do you think things have changed a lot till that time, about you and the band?

Yes of course it has – haha – We have new members of course we are now more then a big family. It’s much better all now.

Everything its now as you ever wanted it?

Yes it really does!

So no bad luck with your guitarists, as you had in your past?

Yeah we really had, so I played a long time in the past but I quit. I think it was two years ago.

So you just concentrated on singing?

Yeah because on stage it’s just fifty percent guitar and vocals, you cant pose, you cant do know nothing you are fixed. So now I can run around like a maniac on stage – haha!

About those changes. I think it is your first tour with the new lineup?

Yeah it is.

So Kiki (female vocals) and Linus (guitar) has left!

Yes, yes!

What about this tour? Are you satisfied with the situation?

Yes I am!!

Really?

Yes! We had some bad places of course but all in all I am really satisfied!

So some places are worse some are better?

Yes so in Italy. There came only nineteen people but also the shows were great. Because all the bands used supporting each other and we had a really fuckin great time. So all in all the shows have been great, the audience has been great and everything else was great – hahaha!

That’s perfect then. Tell me about your new members Turid and Frederik. Do they fit in the band?

Yes, yes!!

That’s what you all the time wanted?

Yes because Frederik is a great guitarist and of course the vocals of Turid are also great!

So I read that Kiki had several problems in singing on your new album Plagued be thy Angel?

On the Delictum too, yeah!!

Oh! So how did she manage it then in the studio recordings? Did she really get it? Ah I see! So are they still together?

Puhh it was much much work! And a lot of fighting!

But on the album it really sounds good!

Yeah but on stage she was….! She and me we fighted all the time. She had really strange kind of use in life I didn’t believe. And then she and Linus were a couple and that didn’t make it better so.

Ah I see! So are they still together?

I think so but I don’t have any contact to them.

Ok, so I don’t have to ask you if you are in good contakt now - hehe!. Do you think that Linus will stay in music business?

No I really don’t think so!

I came on that question because I read that one reason for quitting was that he more prefers to play the 80’s style of music.

Yeah but that’s so strange because the plagued be thy angels album is a lot of heavy metal, you know. But I promise it’s when he made a song he didn’t want any one to fuck with it!

Ah, so no changes any more!

Exactly! He wrote it and wanted to play it so. I cant see this because if I hear something and it’s better so we change it. If you take a song and there is something better why not change it. And of course we had some problems between us too.

And then the thing between Kiki and him made it not easier!

Exactly. So going on the tour bus...

I can understand that yeah! So I read on your homepage about your favorite bands and I really was surprised because there was very often Maiden or King Diamond. So are that the bands which influenced yourself? Because the music of the band is quite a lot different!

So this was the music I grew up with and I still love it! I think you get influenced by everything surrounding you. I also listen to Industrial, Darkwave Bands or Classical. I am open for all that

So what about you bands name Siebenbürgen. It is of course an other name for the country Transsylvania we use in Europe, so how did you come to that name?

Ah it was used in Sweden also about 200 years ago!

The first song of Siebenbürgen I ever used to listen to was the Vampyria, may be as the most of your fans. Can you tell me if the song is about Vampirism, because the lyrics are in Swedish?

Yes, yes it is about a lady called Vampyria, it is her name!

So is vampyrism a theme you are interested in?

Yeah, yeah I am! I think it’s mostly me.

Are the most themes in your lyrics about vampyrism then?

Ah every lyric is like a short horror story –hehe!

About the songwriting. Does every member have a special part to do or how does it work in the band?

So usually we write the music first and in the plagued be thy angels album the first time I wrote the lyrics to the music, so we didn’t separate it and then squeeze it in and so there are as you know more vocals on this album then in the first. So I tried to write it to the songs!

Your first albums are written all in your native language, in Swedish. Why did you start at the Delictum album with the English vocals?

Well I got a total black you know, my mind didn’t work I couldn’t put up singing what I wanted and a couple of month earlier I tried out some English vocals on an other project before the Siebenbürgen. So I tried them out and you know English is a big language so many words, so it’s broader then Swedish.

But I think Swedish is more melodic don’t you think so?

But it’s more difficult to sing in Swedish then in English!

So there is only one song in Swedish on the plagued be thy angels album?

Yes, yes that’s right, like on the Delictum album.

What about the music style of Siebenbürgen. Do you think a lot has changed in the last years?

I think every record differs from the other. So I think this is only natural.

So you grow with your music?

I think you must do it, because if you are playing the same music all the time you get trapped inside it. It must differ.

Well, well that are all the questions I wanted to ask you! and the last thing I would like to say to you is tack så mycket för ditt tid - thanks a lot for your time!

Oh, hehe!!

Any last words for your fans maybe?

Yeah, so we hope that you enjoy the plagued be thy angel album because I think it’s the best!

That’s why I read on your homepage that your favorite Siebenbürgen songs are from the plagued be thy angel album!

Yeah and then I want to thank everybody who came to our shows because you know we had a fuckin great time with you!

So will we see you again in Germany?

Of course! May be in Wacken but it’s not totally sure!

Would be great! Did you ever play on such big festivals?

Ah no, only on the mind of a matter festival in 98. And I really want because you have played in Wacken it’s the highest score!

Lets hope it works!

Yeah and when we come back from the tour we will right start writing new material and pause because we did about 17 shows in Europe on the roll and everybody nearly was sick. So we didn’t have a day off on this tour, only show after show. You don’t sleep really in this bus and drink too much at night!

So will it take long to write the new material for the new albums?

Yeah, yeah I think so!

You are a perfectionist?

Yes, yes every song is written and then changed a lot all the kind of thing that Linus didn’t want to do because actually after the Delictum album on the tour with Graveworm I was totally fed up. So there was a song I played and changed it in my mind and everytime when I was gone Linus took over controll and I came back and he didn’t like the changes so he didn’t say anything except for I think it was the last week on the recordings to the plagued be thy angels album. Then Kiki has left the band. But It was not a shock!

So you nearly new?

Yes, so Kiki right kicked up her ass on the album.

Did she ever have those problems with her voice?

Yeah, because she didn’t care. You know it’s ok when you port a lot if you are still but you can’t do it on stage, because see I don’t drink before stage ever and if you are sick and your vocals are the only instrument you have you must take care of it! Alcohol is the worst thing, so she saw the tour as a big party!

Ah, so she didn’t take it serious!

Yeah so she had other interests!

May be its better so.

Yes, but it really was a great tour, great people, even in Holland the people get crazy and of course in Vienna and Wels! So we do our very best!!

So thanks a lot for this fuckin great time at the Interview!
